The ins and outs of life
Are true imponderables
Trouble and strife
Are never far away from tranquility

Our days are not like movie scenes
Multiple takes are not permitted
Day in and out we breathe
And live knowing none can be repeated.

Out of the womb, we come in to a world
Intense, Outstanding, Incredible
Iniquitous, Outrageous, Outlandish
And yet, we are in and out of touch

Because, despite the keenness of our senses
Hardy defences
To withstand our losses
We have not.

That which is broken is never the same
No matter how much we wish it so
No point in apportioning blame
What’s done and said cannot be taken back

All is irreplaceable
And yet all will be replaced
Time and all of us keep marching by and by
Until we are footnotes in the records of yore
