in your own words

yes, George Carlin comes to mind ! But I am not so clever or innovative. This is the best I can do.

How can I tell you something
In my own words
When I have nothing to say
When my words are not my own
When all I can do
Is cry tears of joy, of fear, of gladness
Or smile gladly or wryly.

How do I express to you my darkest fears
In my own words
When I am overcome by so many doubts
When I am speechless, terrified
When I can hardly scream or shout
Is that something so bad
Or should I take the first step toward you ?

How do I know when to speak
In my own words
When silence is supposedly golden
When you only speak when spoken to
When your response has been created for you
Is that right ?
Or should I stay silent ?

I must borrow words
From poems old and new
Words there are
Many and few
Thoughts and feelings
They describe true
And through them
I can say my own words to you.
