More poetry – who would have thought

100 sleepless nights. What of it ?

Things started to get stale
Between my girl and I
There’s plenty of fish in the sea
I thought.

I casually told her
It wasn’t working out between us
She cried and threw things at me
I let her rant and calmly smoked a cigarette.

But some time later
After she had moved out
I saw her with another
Through the cafe window

She was laughing
Happy, her eyes sparkling
And my heart ached
As I realised my mistake.

What is my punishment
For my ignorance
I wonder
A hundred sleepless nights ?
